The Kissing Hand

Tyler goes to pre-school Tuesday and Thursdays. Last Thursday his second day of pre-school was really hard on him. I didnt expect for him to have such a hard time since his first day was so good. I just remember the whole ride to school he kept saying "Mommy I'm gonna really miss you today". After a long tearful goodbye on both our parts I was worried about taking him back today. Over the weekend MiMi bought Tyler this cute book called the "Kissing Hand" by Audrey Penn. We read the book all weekend together and I taught him how to sign I Love You.

This book had such a sweet message. It talks about little raccoon preparing to go to school and that he was scared and wanted to stay home with his mommy. (sounds a little familiar) The Mommy raccoon shares a family secret with him to help ease his fears. The secret is a kissing hand. You give a gentle kiss in the middle of their palm and they take it with them wherever the go to always be reminded that Mommy love you. Inside the book they had these cute tickers in the shape of a heart that say kissing hand. Before school this morning we sat together and read the book and I gave him a special kissing hand. He was so happy. He said "It doesnt matter if the sticker falls off mommy cause your kiss will stay with me forever. Talk about melting your heart. Its moments like these that I will cherish forever.

With his kiss in hand, he marched right into school and didnt look back. You could tell he was happy and safe. Thanks to the Kissing Hand. I think i am gonna keep this tradition with all my boys.

My mom teaches preschool and always tells me that kids tend to do better the first day of class and then have a tough time leaving their mommies for school on the 2nd day or 3rd day. Glad that the book helped! Emily
