We have been talking about taking Tyler to Disneyland all year for his birthday. He would talk of it almost everyday too. Well here we are time to plan the vaca, the only problem is we dont have all the cash. We have been teaching our kids the importance of paying for everything in cash, and we wernt gonna let this vaca stop us from that lesson. So at dinner tonight we briefly told Tyler that Mommy and Daddy dont have all the cash we need for Disneyland. That we had to take care of other things that our house so desperately needed such as our front tree being ripped out and the importance of saving a dollar and laying sod in the fall not spring. I felt my heart drop as I waited for his reply.
Without hesitation our brilliant 4 year old stood up in his chair and said " Dont worry about it guys....If you dont have the cash than we just cant go. Cash only remember Mommy...No credit cards....remember Daddy....and as we all smiled and laughed with great understanding we all together recited our favorite line " Delayed gratification" With joy in my heart I gave him the biggest hug and thanked him for understanding. I told him as soon as we can collect all the cash we are gonna take the trip of a lifetime to the most magical place on earth and hold no regrets. It will be worth the wait and save.
I guess it has "paid" off all the tough love and lost opportunities my boys have had to get anything and everything they wanted. Tough love isnt such a bad thing specially with a lesson so important to learn. Tyler loves being a funny, wild and crazy kid, but he has a heart of gold. He would do anything for his brothers and has an undying amount of respect for his parents. I couldnt have ask for a better first child What a leader...what an example to all of us. Thanks for understanding Tyler.
