This is my Little Purple People Eater. He and I both came down with Thrush this past week due to my continuous rounds of antibiotics. They placed this purple tinted medicine on him and I today to help fight off the infection. As you can see he isn't the happiest camper, I think that has to do with him being 6 weeks as well. Gotta love week 6 when your perfect little babies wake up and feed like crazy creating that typical battle in breastfeeding for me. It's just a hurdle in the road thats all. We'll get around it.......hopefully.

Ahhh.... Gentian (Jen-shin) Violet! Did they give you the rest of the bottle? Or instruct you to rub any on yourself? I fought thrush w/ Joss for about 6 horrible months. It was so painful. When she wasn't latched on it felt like knives were being stabbed into my boobs & armpits - when she was those knives were suddenly on fire! I hope yours stays mild & clears up quickly! I'm sure they told you, but other tips are to keep your breasts as dry as possible. The yeast thrives in dark, humid environments so if you use breast pads don't wear them all the time - just tuck one of the opposite side as he feeds then take it out when he's done. Also, if you were using lanolin I'd stop. You're probably conditioned enough by now that it's not necessary. wash your nursing bras & any other clothing that comes in contact with your breasts in the hottest water possible with bleach. Also, try to reduce your sugar intake until it's gone, too, because yeast feeds on sugar. Eat yogurt or other things with probiotics. Also, if it's still hanging on, you can take the same prescription they give for vag. yeast infections, but it needs to be a much higher dose.
Sorry to ramble on! I just know how bad it can get if you don't nip it in the bud so I'm gonna help anyone NOT get there if I can! Good luck. I hope you & Ryan can get over it quickly!!
OH NO!! That is the worst word in the english dictionary, "Thrush." Thrush was my worst partner in nursing... it never left until around month 3 or 4 if I made it that far no matter what I did or tried. I couldn't kick it for the flippen life of me and the worst part was when it was cold it felt like someone took that seering knife through my boobs all the way out of the back and back and forth it was torcher...I hate thrush! Hang in there... Biggest advise: make sure both your doctor and his doctor treat you both at the
SAME time... if you are on oral meds, but he is not, he'll pass it right back to you and it will never go away, but nystation didn't ever seem to do anything for me or them... also, vinager works when applied after every feeding, it removes the enviroment that the thrush thrives on, but like all other things it doesn't fix the problem if he isn't being treated... the only thing that ever worked with me was time, eventually the body recognises the need to reduce the yeast and everything goes back down, but how long will that take? 1 month, 2, 3? Who knows... I Am So Sorry... also, you can buy the Gentian Violet over the counter, but make sure you ask the doctor how many times you can apply it and such because applied to many times can cause more problems than not, but it is the most effective thing out there, but it sure stains the heck out of you... oh, my sister swore by rubbing yogurt with cultures on your nipples after every nursing and into his mouth and she also swore by cocanut oil applied to the nipples... who knows... it is all a stupid waiting game for it to leave or atleast it was for me... I am so sorry.
P.S. how the heck does he not have it all over his face? my kids never kept it just in their mouths, it was everywhere!
