Tyler's First Sleep Over

Tyler had his first sleep over tonight with his Best Friend Seth. When Seth's Mom called me last week with the invite I was a little hesitant. It was hard to come to grips that my first born was reaching the "sleep over" stage. I have always debated with Perry in this subject, and now it was time to really finalize our thoughts and come to a decision. We came to a decision that sleep overs are harmless at this young of an age. We decided to allow our boys to go/have sleep overs up until they are 10 years of age or so, as long as we know the family real well. In this case Seth is Tyler best friend and Perry and I are really good friends with the parents. So I knew he would be in good hands.

My opinion is that once our boys reach a certain age I feel that the advisary will work extra hard on them and especially late at night when their guard is down. Being a youth myself I know that the boys youth leaders will teach them the same thing, and if we arnt on the same page then we are setting ourselves up for disaster. Theres that saying "The spirit goes to bed at midnight" I truly believe that.

But contrary to my beliefs Tyler is really only 6. And Perry and I both felt that this little gap in time is a great chance for him to be able to experience the true fun of a sleep over with pure innocence. Perry and I feel if we dont allow him to experience these things at an early age he will find a way to retaliate and rebel as a teenager in order to experience it. We dont want that, so we have set the rules now to prevent any retaliation and for him to respect the family guidelines with no exceptions.

Tyler was so excited to sleep over at his best friends house. He has had several sleep overs at MiMi's house but thats not the same as hanging out with your best bud all night at his house. He could hardly contain himself all day. As soon as we got home from school he backed his bags and we took him over to Seths house. The two of them were so excited to see each other and play Wii all night. How did I guess that would be their main source of entertainment? Silly boys.

Trevor had a really hard time with Tyler leaving. I kept hearing Tyler comfort his little brother and express his love as he packed his bag. I had to snap a picture of that moment. I think my heart ached as much as Trevors did tonight as Tylers energy was absent in our home and it seemed a little bit quieter. My baby is really growing up, but thats a good thing. Today marks another mile stone for Tyler. He is now an official sleep over pro.
