Today I sent my baby off to 1st Grade. All-Day School that is! He has been counting down the days to use his new lunch bag, sharpen all his pencils, play with all his school friends, and wear all his new clothes. The 1st day of school was like Christmas morning. He woke up before dawn and rushed into our room filled with excitement and nerves. I reminded him that everyone is feeling the same way and its all normal. I went against my nature and made a very simple breakfast(cereal) knowing that his appetite would be hindered by these nerves. I stayed up the night before packing his lunch and getting the house in order for his big day. I was to busy to take a picture of his lunch, so for keepsakes Ill just have to record the menu for the day.
Tyler's Lunch
*Homemade M.I.Y. Pizza Kit
*Salad with broccoli and carrots
*Babybel Cheese
*Popcorn
*Milk
*Peanuts
*Brownies
He picked out his own clothes this year and decided to wear his favorite "Tom and Jerry" T-Shirt along with his new hand watch and shoes. To help calm his nerves we read the "Kissing Hand" and I gave him a good luck bracelet at his request.
We said our goodbyes to the neighborhood kids and off to school we went.
I love how his new backpack is bigger then him. What a crack up.
Yes I was one of those Moms that held a mini photo session in the classroom.
On the way home we came up with a new tradition. That each day I pick him up we would label the day with either thumbs up or a thumbs down. He liked that idea and gave his 1st day of 1st grade a great big thumbs up. Wow thats impressive considering the fact that he got lost looking for Mommy after school. He informed me that his kissing hand and good luck bracelet is no longer needed, that he finds more courage and bravery through the mommy love notes and jokes he receives in his lunch bag. Good to know we're moving on. We rushed home played with our friends, ate some dinner, and ran off to football. Good thing we didnt have homework on the first night, cause I was overwhelmed enough. This is gonna take some getting used to. My two middle boys spent the better half of their day crying anxious tears as they watched their once calm and relaxed Mother run around like a headless chicken. Back to routine we go! Blah!
Though we all felt like zombies on the way to football practice, once the sun set Tyler got his second wind and ended up really enjoying the game.
After staying up till 11:00pm preparing for the next day I got a crazy feeling that at the rate that Im going, this year is gonna fly by. I love Tylers enthusiasm and zeal for life. Hes such a riot and loves to make everyone laugh. Teacher has informed me that in these few short days, he has been one of the few kids that volunteer to read stories and is eager to help out in the class room. Hes such a strong, confident, energetic little boy and I know he will even blossom more throughout this upcoming school year. I just hope I can survive the crazy hectic schedule of school, homework and sports and blossom into a stronger more organized Mother.
