Need your help...Im just done!

Hello all you mommies out there. I really need your advice. Okay so i just came down with another terrible breast infection while we were at wild waters yesterday. Thank goodness im feeling better today.
Im gonna be honest with you girls. Im stressing. Its hard having a busy 3 year old, a curious 1 year old, and a baby that Im trying to breast feed. Every morning I wake up with a positive outlook on life and make the best out of each day. Most importantly Spencer has really taught me to just chill. Anyone who knows me I am very uptight and rigid with the kids. But these past couple months Ive become a much more down to earth kinda gal. I actually like it a lot more. Im just relaxing more and enjoying the crazy chaos in our home. Its now becoming fun to watch the boys wrestle and play hard. thats what lifes all about. Im slowly learning to let go of the house and play more with the kids. But amidst all of these wonderful changes I am really struggling with Breast Feeding Spencer. I cant go more than 3 weeks without getting these massive breast infection that just knock me off my feet.
I know its important to give Spencer the best milk for him But im just getting worn out. My dilemma is that we just found out hes got acid reflex, which Tyler my oldest had. I know for a fact that if i quit breast feeding we will have to get that expensive "nutramigine" formula and I just dont think we have it in our budget to do so. But im wearing thin with these breast infection.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

What has your doctor said about it? Does she think it will be something that will just keep happening? My advice would be to call the breastfeeding hotline that the hospital offers they are really good about answering questions or contact someone in the Le Leche league they might have some tips too so you can keep nursing because I know it is important to you and FREE you can't beat FREE! Give me a call if there is anything I can do for you.

That is really crappy for you! I would do a ton of research and find out how to prevent, homeopathic, etc. Doctors don't always tell you everything. Also, everything Melissa said too.

Hey Keri,

I am sorry. You know that I know how much breast feeding sucks. It is wonderful, but it is hard too, but I figured out something recently that could help you depending on your type of infection... Okay, if it is a yeast infection take garlic; you can buy it over the counter at walmart in their pharmacy section. I believe that the one at walmart says take it 4 times a day, do that. Then after about 2 to 4 weeks just to make sure it is out of your system you can drop down to two tablets a day (I take mine at night). I know it sounds stupid, but IT REALLY WORKS!! I got a massive yeast infection with Brooklynn when I moved here to Utah and I tried ALL the drugs I could get prescribed (Fluconizoal, etc.) for myself and for Brooklynn. I did gentine violet and everything, but nothing was working. I was fed up because not only was I battling the supply aspect of breast feeding, I was now battling the MASSIVE pain. I read an article about mom's eating cloves of garlic and never getting any yeast infections and more than that mom's taking it and not having to treat their baby because it goes through in the breast milk, so I figured why not and tried it. And believe it or not, IT WORKED!! I saw the thrush in Brook's mouth clearing up in 24 hours, and gone within 72. I wanted to cry because it was just so easy. If it's mastitus, I don't know what to tell you, other than start pumping like crazy because it means that your not empting out your breasts enough of the milk (according to my sister-in-law who got those crapy infections all the time - she got to the point that she would feed their daughters on only one side at a time and then pump the other side just to make sure she was completely empty. Yet, to me that would seem like it would just make it increase even more, and a lot of work so I don't know how effective it was other than it did seem to keep her infections down more - don't ask me how). Other than that I don't know what to say other than try the Garlic, it's worth trying even if it is mastitus to see if that cures it to. All I know is that I had massive yeast infections with Chey (one of the main reasons I stopped feeding her) that woulding go away, and now with Brook, I have not had another case of yeast since. I take it religiously, and if I even feel pain coming back I increase the dosage, and I don't have any problems. Good luck, I hope that helps!!

Keri, just so you know, the above comment was from me, Aprill Logan. I am working on a blogging site for Jess' company and was hoping it would use my family website that I am going to be putting together soon, but it didn't. So, just an FYI so your not going who the heck is that crazy person!! Sorry!!

Mastitis will require antibiotics...the sooner the better. You really need to make sure that you empty out, even if that means pumping after he's eaten. You will feel better and the infection will clear up quicker. It's okay to pump and give him a bottle...or better yet, have dad give him a bottle! You might find that pumping is easier. I could always pump more than they ate, so I could pump on a regular schedule, feed them a bottle of my milk on demand and have plenty to go around. This last time around (my third) I had to take days off at a time because it was so painful and stressful. So, I just pumped and someone fed him a bottle. He's 13 months and still breastfeeding! Do you have a good pump? That would be my suggestion...get a good pump and use it! Good luck! A fellow photographer mommy in Reno

Just buy formula!!! I'm not meaning to be the anti-breast feeding mom, but seriously your happiness and well being is totally worth $20 a week! I did not breast feed any of my kids (not by my choice, mind you). Buying formula sucks. Washing bottles gets annoying. However, Perry can help with feeds. You can do the helpful "prop the bottle under a blanket" when you have a thousand other things happening with the Ty and Trevor. Just remember you won't be buying formula forever. You are NOT a bad mom if you bottle feed. You WILL bond just fine with Spencer even if you don't breast feed him for 1 year. All of my girls had to have terribly expensive formula too (of course there can't be a normal Roylance baby...ha ha!). After about 7 months, the twins reflux cleared up and they could have normal formula. If Spencer was your first baby, you would have the time and energy to devote to being the breast feeding mom. However, you have two other babies that need you too. This is all my opinion. I hope none of it offended you (or any other die-hard breast feeding mom). It's not my intent! I just think mom's happiness is the most important!!

Hey it is me Aprill again, I am going to be a pain, I know, so just bare with me. :) But I was reading Alison's comment, and if you decide to no longer breast feed, which is totally understandable with your constant breast infections, than I had another thought to pass on to you. I know one of the hang ups is the price of the formula for the reflux and knowing Ty's history and your fear of that happening again, maybe one thing you could talk to your ped's doctor about is goats milk instead of formula. Hellena's youngest son has a condition where his larenx is not completely formed, and formula was not an option because he had really bad acid reflux and if any of that got into his lungs it would kill him (no joke). So she breast feed for as long as she could mentally stand it, and when she couldn't do it any more due to pain and yeast she did alot of research on what would be best for him since he was younger than a year and they couldn't do cows milk and she discovered in her months of research that goats milk was the closest thing to human breast milk. She talked to her doctor in Arizona and she said it was true, so they started him on that. He did not have any problems with it. So maybe in the long run it would be cheaper (I don't know, I have never had to use it) and more of a mothers cup of sanaty. Just another thought for you that MIGHT save you money if your really cannot do the breast feeding thing anymore. You'll know what to do, just pray about it and the Lord will tell you what needs to be done. I know your close to the Lord, so I have no doubt of that.

That sounds awful Keri! I never had to go through the pain of a breast infection, so I don't have any advice to offer you, but I just wanted to let you know that I'm sorry you're having a rough time!
