A Date with Mommy

I took Tyler on a special Mommy date to See a movie and out for lunch. We belong to a summer movie club and this weeks showing was Tyler's favorite "Ice Age 3" We snuggled and laughed together the whole time and even danced our socks off to the dinosaur boggy song. Then after the movie we went out for lunch at this new and interesting place called "Pizza Balls" Tyler thought it was so much fun to eat a pizza ball and so did I. He even learned his first game of checkers that day.... and get this he beat his MaMa. We had long talks in the car and at lunch about "big boy" stuff like how to pick out the good kids at school from the bad kids and how to find those good kids and become friends with them. Also how to be brave and courageous in a new BIG school. As he held my hand everywhere my eyes filled with tears as I looked down at his little hand curled inside mine and listened to his little sincere voice talk to me about all his concerns and knowing that soon...very soon I have to send him to school and walk this tiny little hand up to the school doors and leave him there for the whole day. I cant protect him anymore at that point. He will be vulnerable to lots of new situations but I know with our great friendship and love we share together that we as parents will be able to nurture and carry him through this big process and help him adjust and return home each day with honor. I just cant believe my little baby is growing up. I cant believe hes attending an "All Day Kindergarten" school and that I wont see my baby much anymore during the week as I do now. Now more long play dates at the park daily or baseball games in the backyard or snuggles on the couch during his younger brothers nap time. Its gonna be quite...well until the baby is born (LOL). Its gonna be an adjustment for not only him but his Mama to. Just makes me grateful for each day I have with him throughout the summer. Though hes busy and ready for school and activities I will miss his energy and spark in the home during the day. But though our time will become more limited together his little hand will always fit inside mine no matter how big he gets.
