Back-To-School Party and Open House

Today we held our annual Back-To-School party at our house. This year I invited some kids that will be in Tylers Kindergarten class that also go to our church. We had a very casual backyard swimming party with a slip and slide, some yummy snacks, and a craft table for the kids to make their own key chains for their backpack. I wanted to give them a chance to bond and strengthen their friendships before they gather together on Monday morning for school. To see all the kids lined up after the party with their arms around each other happy and excited made all the effort for this party worth my while. Below is a picture of the key chains that Trevor and Tyler made for their backpacks. They were so proud of their hard work and I thought they looked so cute hanging on their bags.

After the party we partook of our last nap/quit time. Tyler and I snuggled on the couch watching TV while the other boys took a nap. I knew those moments were very short lived and a part of my heart ached for time to freeze. We enjoyed our snuggle time. Then MiMi came over to watch the youngsters while I took Tyler to the open house at his school. We had some long talks on the way to school about his fears and anxieties. I was able to help ease those worries and give him the tools to conquer all that lies ahead of him in this change. It was a good talk we shared on that drive over. I made sure he knew that his MaMa felt just as anxious as he did but knew that he was brave and courageous enough to face it with a happy heart. And he did just that. We walked into school hand in hand and meet his new teacher and got more familiar with his new classroom. Within seconds he noticed his friends from the pool party at our house and vanished form my arms with pure joy and excitement. I think he played and danced around the room for close to an hour. He warmed up to this change quite quickly. He even saw some of his best of friends from pre-school. it was just so cool for him.

He picked out his own locker and we figured out his bus schedule. We even got a special treat at the end of our visit. Tyler has been so anxious about meeting the principal. I think his image of the Principal was pretty close to the boogy man. He has been pretty frightened of the unknown and wondering how the Principal treats the kis. Little did we know that the lady showing us around the kids playground was indeed the Principal. Her name Mrs. Gary. Once I told her Tylers fears she immediately gave him a big hig...introduced herself and took him by his little hand and off they went to play together at the playground. Laughing, joking, and just being friends. See that wasnt so bad he thought we walked to the car. "Mom I think I can do this now...the Principal and my teacher is so nice..I love my new school and cant wait to go" words from my little 5 year olds mouth was pure joy in a Mothers heart.

We celebrated with a trip to the ice cream store. My little man sure is growing up and though I panic with the thought of his bus ride home and the giant playground with thousands of strangers I know in time we will all find normalcy in this big change.

The principal's first name is Mary. I find it amusing that her first and last name rhyme. Tyler is going to love Mrs. Maples. She is awesome. I love how you make every moment so special for Tyler.
