We have been reading the Storybook Scriptures with the kids now for over 2 years. It has been a great strength in our home and we as a family have learned along the way how to apply the messages in the scriptures to our own lives. Its amazing to me the information each boy retains as we circulate through each book in the scriptures. I have been trying to encourage Tyler to sit down during quite time each day and do some summer reading. For a while we would read 1st grade level books or magazines, but today his interest in the scriptures became more personal.
He became very interested in reading his own scriptures. You see, we have a tradition in our home that on your first Sunday in Primary you wear your white shirt and tie and also get to have your very own mini scripture set. Heres a look back to that memorable day for Tyler at 3 years old. Isnt he so adorable! I sure think so.
And just as we had hoped and prayed, 3 years later he is now engulfed whole heartily in these mini scriptures of his and thirsting for personal knowledge in what he is reading. Even though its still a struggle to comprehend what he is reading the joy the spirit gives him shines through in his smile.
He told me today that he was gonna set a new goal and see how much of his Book of Mormon he could read by the time he gets baptised(next fall 2012). I told him its not how fast you read it, but how much your spirit grows with each verse you read. What better way to prepare for your Baptism then to feel the truth of the gospel while reading the scriptures. Im so very proud of him and his ability to listen to those still small whisperings and begin to gain his very own personal testimony of the gospel.
Trevor of course has to follow in his Brothers footsteps. And since he cant even read yet its fun to see his little spirit light up by just gazing at the words.
Tyler, thanks for being such a good example to your younger Brothers, just as domino's fall in order so does the thirst for scripture knowledge between you boys. Heres baby Ryan cuddled up in Trevors arms as Trevor shares his excitement for the scriptures too.
If you're wondering where Spencer is in all this, hes probably off somewhere marching to the beat of his own drum. Hes my little independent thinker. When he catches light of the scriptures I know from his sweet, energetic self that he too will feel that joy within his heart. That will be a good day for my little peanut and will come on his own due time.
