Spiritually Fed

Now that the kids are older Perry and I have been able to get away with sleeping in. The kids will get up and go play quietly in the playroom while we enjoy our early morning slumber. This habit soon enough ended up to be the culprit to the change our of kids behavior. What seemed to be a perfect dream come true actually ended up being a temptation to push aside family time. I had talked to Perry about my feelings and he agreed. The kids needed us more then we thought in the mornings. So we came up with a plan that we would rise early with the kids with a smile on our face and really get down in to their level and play. We then decided to fix breakfast earlier then normal and start a routine of daily scripture study during breakfast. The kids are able to really pay attention to the discussion and arnt so distracted. Its such a great way to start the day. Not only is breakfast the most important meal of the day its also the most important time to study the scriptures. I never realized until starting this routine that yet our belly's were nice and full our hearts and minds were not. We have been starving as a family for spiritual growth and it feels good to conquer that hunger and be spiritually fed each morning.

Each week we study a lesson out of our Gospel Principle book. What a great topic for our family this year. The basics are so beautiful and easy to teach our kids. Its been so rewarding to see the blessing of study the scriptures with our kids. This past week Tyler has announced to his teacher at school that he would like to talk to his school friends about the Holy Ghost. He has also told me that he wants to take his Book of Mormon to school and show all his friends the new book Joseph Smith found long time ago. He wants to express to his teachers and friends that in the "Book of Mormon" and "Doctrine and Covenants" teaches us to not drink coffee or alcohol. I love seeing his testimony blossom and grow from something as simple as early morning scripture study. I know my goals for this year were to be physically fit, but since being pregnant I have realized that for this moment in time its our families spiritual growth that is in need of attention. We are not fit as a family and that makes it hard to endure some of life's challenges. Not any more. Since our morning scripture study has come around we have found our selves learning and growing in the gospel together. Tyler is at that age where he wants to learn and its been very rewarding to see the blessings that come from being obedient to the spirits promptings. Though we miss sleeping in each morning it sure feels good to wake up refreshed with quality family time. Sure makes each day feel brighter.

The best part of this change in my family is something so simple my 5 year old son said to me as I put him to bed tonight.

"Mommy...Im gonna wake up every morning for the rest of my life and read the scriptures" Thats a small whisper from my baby that I will never forget. I love the Gospel and I love my family.
